We care for our students. And for your little students too. You and your child can go to work or school on the same campus!

Lake Washington Institute of Technology provides complete on-site child care services for students and employees of the College. We also accept community on a space availability basis. The Early Learning Center is a lab site for the Adult Early Childhood Education Program. With an active, hands-on philosophy, our child care staff promotes learning through experience and accomplishment.

Our classrooms operate as separate Preschool and Toddler programs. We offer four or five half day options anytime between 6:45 a.m - 12:00 p.m., or four or five full day options with a ten hour maximum anytime between 6:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

We extend learning to our outdoor space as well, and we have two separate, large playgrounds for the Toddler and Preschool Programs; an indoor large motor room; a shaded forest area with a large sand box; walking trails; a garden with low and raised beds for the children to play in and to care for plants; and partnerships with the Culinary and Horticulture departments with quarterly cooking classes as well as visits to the greenhouse and arboretum.

Our teachers are trained in childhood development and our program models best practices in Early Childhood Education. Our child care Specialists will work individually with your child at their level of development and create an engaging and nurturing environment in which your child can thrive. All classrooms have a Daily Schedule of Activities and a Weekly Lesson Plan posted on the parent board that are created by the teachers and based on developmental goals for every child, our family’s goals, and the interests of the children. We also have a Family Handbook that will tell you more about our philosophy, policies and procedures.

Typical Daily Schedule

The classroom learning environment is composed of a variety of learning centers. The activities and materials located in these centers are frequently changed and enhanced to facilitate the children’s interests and exploration. The following learning centers are always open and can be located on the schedule under "Free Choice of Centers."

  • Table art and easel art
  • Wet sensory
  • Dry sensory
  • Play-Dough table
  • Discovery (Science)
  • Blocks
  • Manipulatives
  • Dramatic play (housekeeping)
  • Book/puppet area
  • Large motor climber

If you would like your child to attend our Early Learning Center, these are the requirements that need to be in place before care can begin:

  • A completed registration packet, including up to date immunizations.
  • A two hour visit in the classroom with you and your child. Some young children benefit from several visits with a parent in order to feel comfortable.
  • If you will be receiving funding, we will need written verification from the funding agency.
