Dental Assistant

The Dental Assistant AAS degree prepares students with the necessary background, knowledge, and specialized skills for a career in the field of the dental profession.

Admission Requirements

Entry into this program requires completion of an admissions application. Information regarding physical exam, vision exam, immunizations and insurance is provided prior to orientation.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Students learn theory and skills from classroom lectures, laboratory practice, and hands-on practice in the Lake Washington Institute of Technology Dental Clinic. Additional experiences in private dental practices are part of the four weeks required externship phase of training. Upon completion of this American Dental Association (ADA) accredited program, students will be eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Dental Assisting Certification Examination.

Gainful employment

Regulations published in the Federal Register on October 29, 2010, require institutions to report certain information about students who enrolled in Title IV eligible educational programs that lead to gainful employment in a recognized occupation (GE programs). Those regulations also provide that institutions must disclose to prospective students certain information about the institution's GE Programs.

Margo has a diploma in Dental Assisting and Associate of Arts degree from Seattle Central Community College, and a Master in Education degree from the University of Washington.  Margo has a wealth of experience teaching at Lake Washington Technical College.  Before becoming Dental Assistant instructor, she was with University of Washington Hospital where she assisted in dental specialties as an oral-maxillofacial technician, and at Children's Orthopedic as a dental assistant.

Scarlet has been teaching in Lake Washington Institute of Technology's Dental Assistant program since 1998.  She has 23 years of experience in private practice dental offices and has also taught at Highline Community College.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington and an Master of Arts from the University of Phoenix

Seema Jain has been teaching in Dental Assistant Program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology since 2006. After earning a Master of Arts degree in Social Works, she earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Assisting from Lake Washington Institute of Technology. She has worked at fast paced dental offices and loves teaching.
